Our Goal for You

Take in the salty air, the ocean breeze and the sand between your toes. Now imagine sitting in the line up, feeling confident and able to paddle into your own waves. Feel yourself cruising down the line with the ability to read the wave and the know how to out the back.

This is what a week of surf camp can teach you and more. Some gasp at the thought of learning to surf in week, but ask any of our previous guests and they will tell you the same, ‘If I can do it, you can too.’ A week at surf camp is challenging, rewarding, filled with moments of happiness and doubt, but most of all surfing. At the end of the week a feeling of accomplishment washes over. All your fears, worries, and stress melt away and ‘that feeling’ over takes you. You now know how to surf.

The Introduction to Surfing

The first days of your surf retreat at Chica Brava are mixed bags of emotions. You are learning a new sport, new terminology, and best of all you are learning about the ocean in a whole new way. A week of surf camp teaches you a couple of things:

  1. Proper etiquette in the line up. You can’t just hop on the freeway without knowing the rules of the road and surfing is the same.
  2. How to pick your equipment. Surfboards come in many different shapes, sizes, and styles; some are better than others when you first start surfing.
  3. Understanding the conditions. Not all weather conditions are ideal for surfing, so knowing what wind and tide works best is crucial to your surfing future.
  4. Learning how to catch and ride a wave. Surfing is all about the feeling but to get there, you need to know how to paddle, how to pop-up, and how to stay stable as the wave takes the board to the shore.

In just one weeks time you will be on the path to catching your own wave. You can expect to feel comfortable paddling out on your own, catch a ‘green wave’, and know how to read the conditions. Will you be the next Carissa Moore in one week? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have the same passion.

After that first ride, the feeling will over take you and will leave you wanting more, wanting to know where your next surf adventure will be. Be warned you might plan your next vacation around surfing, move closer to the beach or GASP quit your job (Maybe a little too far).

With a little guidance from our amazing crew, you can and will learn to surf in a week. Cruise on over and make a reservation, so you can learn to surf.
