Chica Brava Weekly Camp Story: The Group

Last week in surf house was incredible. Kelsey and I had the chance to host 5 beautiful souls: Mel, Leslie, Tonia, Sue and Tiffany. Every day was fulfilled with good waves, sun and lots of laughs.

Sunday

For the first day of the week, we went to beautiful Playa Hermosa. For most of the girls, mastering the ‘’pop-up’’ was their main goal, while Leslie and Sue were already passing the break trying to catch their own waves. Everyone did an amazing job on this day and were all happy about their performance. After our surf session, we enjoyed a chill time on the beach, relaxing in the hammock and seeking for shells. We left Playa Hermosa around 3pm to go back to town. While Tiff was having her Spanish class, the other girls went shopping in town. For dinner, we all craved for good local brewed beer and tacos, so we decided to go to the Cerveceria. It was a good day for everyone!

Monday

Chica Brava Weekly Camp Story: Surfing a wave

On Monday, the girls went for their first yoga class in town where they did a lot of powerful poses and flow. What a good way to start the day! After yoga, we had theory about surf etiquette and recognizing the waves. We also had a few videos from the girls surfing on Sunday, so they could see what they did good, and what they had to ameliorate. After all this info, we went to Playa Remanso, a beach break that is perfect to learn how to surf. Again, half of the group was on the outside while other ones were practicing more pop-ups and paddling for their own waves. This day was fun, everyone improved a lot their technic and were happy about it. After surfing, we went back to town where Tiffany had another Spanish class and everyone else went for some personal town time. For dinner, the girls went to Parlour with Lindsey, a cute resto-bar with some amazing Asian fusion food.

Tuesday

Tuesday morning was great. Tiffany started with some Spanish lessons (already a pro) and than we all went to climb the mountain to see the famous Cristo! Up there, you have the best view of San Juan Del Sur and north of the city. You realise how pretty San Juan is and how blue is the water. After this morning hike, Leslie decided to spend the day reading and relaxing in Pelican Eye resort where you have pools, drinks and wonderful view of the ocean, due to a little injury she had. Yes, we are a surf camp, but lay day is important if you feel like you need it, it’s part of Nicaragua’s experience ????! While Leslie was having a sweet time, we went back again to Playa Remanso where we surfed BIG waves. Kelsey and I were so proud of our chicas, they did an amazing job, paddling in big waves. We stayed at the beach until sunset, we were really enjoying our day outside. The girls were relaxing on long chairs and drinking a beer after giving all that they could in the water. When we came back to town, we went out to have sushi and everyone was tired and went to bed early. What a good day!

Wednesday

Chica Brava Weekly Camp Story

Wednesday was also a fun day. Sue and Tiffany started the day with Spanish classes while the other girls went for a walk on the beach. Afterwards, we did theory at Surf House about types of breaks and video review of the girls surfing the day before. Today in the water was about learning how to angle down the waves, which means choosing which direction to ride the wave. The girls did amazing once again, surfed a solid 2 hours and rewarded them self with good food and smoothies at the beach. We also stayed at the beach for sunset hour and than got back home where the girls went out by themselves.

Thursday

Weekly Chica Brava Camp Story: Riding a wave!

Thursday was the best day of the week. We did an early surf session, waking up at 5am to do theory about surf forecast and then went surfing Remanso again. There were really good waves and we had the ocean to our self. On this day, we kept practicing angling and being comfortable in the water, reading the ocean and the waves. After this amazing surf sess, we left back to town to take a shower, grab lunch and jump on the coolest catamaran. From 1pm to sunset hour we were cruising on the ocean, drinking Mai Tai and eating ceviche and guacamole. We stopped by a private white sand beach where we played football and drink cold beers. On our way back to town, we saw the most beautiful sunset and we had the chance to see turtles. It was really a perfect day: surfing down patrol in the morning and catamaran in the afternoon. The girls kept saying we should do this every day, I agree hehe. After catamaran, everyone was super tired and went to bed early.

Friday

Weekly Chica Brava Camp Story: Carrying a surfboard.

Friday fun day! We went surfing Remanso again super early. There was no one in the water and we had amazing waves. Today was all about having fun in the water, surfing our last waves of the week. The girls really improved thru the week and everyone was satisfied about their experience in the water. We stayed at the beach until lunch and than got back home. After a good week of surfing, the girls deserved massage. While everyone was getting massages, the other ones were either shopping, having Spanish classes or simply walking on the beach. Then, the ladies went to their last yoga classes before having dinner all together. We went to this cute restaurant in the backyard terrace and had amazing food and cocktails. After dinner, we had gelato to end up the week in the best way.
