Woman surfing a great wave with rocks behind in San Juan Del Sur Nicaragua

The Fantastic Four

Four wonderful ladies spent the end of March at Chica Brava’s Surf Retreat at Cloud Farm in Casa Hermosa.

Alison and Courtney have been friends since they were 11 and are now living and working in different parts of the United States. They decided that it was time for another reunion and booked their tickets to Nicaragua to surf and play together. Alison surfed a bunch while she was working in Panama two years ago and Courtney took two lessons there while she was visiting her bestie.

Our lovely Physician Melba is living and working in Portland. She took one lesson before Chica Brava in Hawaii and her initial goal with us was to pop up on the board. Our passionate soccer player and Mum of two kids works in Consulting in Washington DC. She came to Nicaragua with no surfing experience at all and wanted to learn the basics.

Our lovely ladies were surfing the breaks in Playa Maderas and Playa Remanso. As there was a bigger swell hitting midweek we mainly stayed in the bay of Remanso.

Women receiving surf instruction at a beach in NicaraguaAlison paddled to the outside on the first day of her Surf Retreat and was catching her own waves. Throughout the week her wave selection and angling improved a lot. She caught some big waves in Playa Maderas and loads of of fun rides down the line in Playa Remanso.

Courtney was mastering her pop up on her first day and paddled out to the outside on her second day. She started to paddle in some of her waves on her own on the third day and also paddled out to the line up when the big swell was hitting on Thursday.

Melba mastered her pop up on her third day and paddled to the outside on Wednesday for the paddle drill where she caught a sick wave in. During her Chica Brava Surf Retreat she started to catch her own inside waves and also surfed some of them down the line.

Micaela was mastering her pop up during her first days of her stay and also paddled to the outside on Wednesday. Throughout the week her paddling got significantly stronger and by the end of her stay Micaela was paddling into her own inside waves.

Our ladies had two mornings and one sunset yoga session up at cloud farm in front of the infinity pool- with a gorgeous view over the bay of San Juan del Sur. We went to Playa Marsella on Wednesday for a sunset Aerial Acrobatics class where we did balance and inversion exercises, Acroyoga and Silks. On Friday we all had dinner up at Cloud Farm and went out on the town for gelato and beers afterwards.

Another lovely week in paradise went by and oh so quickly. Thanks Ladies for the good time and good laughs!
