Chica Brava Surf Reatreat - Group of Surfer Chicas

Sunday Funday

The ladies had breakfast, yoga, and board assignments this morning. We hosted a super successful and effective beach cleanup in the SJDS Bay. Yay! Save those sea turtles! Best part of today: I made two new RAD chica friends. Jen is living up in Manhattan, NY (riding the famous smurffette longboard) and Brynn’s homestead is in Washington (sporting the mini magic mike walden). The swell of the week has hit us with some beautiful waves and rides at Playa Remanso. We cruised to our surf session with some reggaeton tunes from Marie Soleil, had ourselves some tona time, took in the sunshine, and then dove right into beach safety, pop ups, maintaining good form, and catching some sunset rides. After surfing this evening, our bellies needed food ASAP so we walked over to Comedor Las Flores for lucky-just-in-time happy hour, delicious food, addicting conversations, and the super sweet NatGeo shows on the televisions.
Surf Recap: Brynn is killing it on the outside already. She’s going to focus on angling and reading waves. Jenn, first time in the sea in about a year, is already mastering her pop up and riding baby green waves!

Monday

The rest of the week, we are doing some DAWN PATROLS! We pulled up to Remanso to find an empty lineup and perfect glassy conditions. While we were doing our SURF stretch, we noticed millions of geometrically shaped jelly creatures (which might end up being sea snail eggs)!

Tuesday

Midweek Check-in! The girls were ready to step up their goals by the middle of the week. Brynn turned her focus even more to looking at the top 3rd of the wave and figuring out the timing of the drop-in on Magic Mike (aka”Worldly Walden”). Jen started adding paddling into her waves and working on her own timing for the pop-up. We jammed some french/spanish rap on the way home, drank some micheladas, and got some lunch in the back garden of Simon Says together.

Wednesday

Playa Remanso again! Lots of lefts were coming in and the ladies were on it! The official drink of the week was Nicaraguan Micheladas…. so here’s their recipe! Micheladas are a cross between a bloody mary and a beer. For the tomato juice mix: fresh squeezed tomatoes (500ml), tomato puree (2 tsp), lemon wedges, lime, and salt. After making that mix, you can make your michelada mix with it: 2 shots of the tomato juice mix, 1/2 shot of chicken, beef,or veggie broth, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1/2-1 shot of lemon juice, a pinch to a dash of chili, narrow and tall glass of ice, and an ice cold Toña! Salt the rim and sip after your surf!

Thursday

We cruised over to Playa Hermosa for the day! The beach goes on forever to the south and you can see the skyline of the Costa Rican Mountains. It’s a beach break that has inside spots and outside A-frame peaks, with lefts and rights for as far as you can see. The conditions were a little challenging that day, but the girls got out there and caught some waves while working on their form! We returned home for some restorative yoga at Zen Yoga, where our teacher Madi helped us release the tension from our paddling shoulders and our hips.

Friday

The best day of all! Playa Remanso was firing! We were all out there and on it! The chicas that stayed with us this week made the last day of work the most amazing for me and Marie Soleil. We surfed for hours, the swell was perfect with beautiful organized sets coming in, and we all lived in up at the little tiki restaurant there dancing and reminiscing about our favorite moments from the week.

More sea sisters, soul surfing sessions, and sunshine giggles in the lineup….what more could I have asked for. I appreciate y’all and can’t wait to cross our paths someday.

Siempre,
