Five chicas made their way down on the 5th of July to the Chica Brava Surf House after celebrating America’s Independence Day. There were all sorts of different wave conditions this week. We started out the week surfing Remanso where the waves were big, and the ladies conquered their pop ups, paddling, and turtle rolls. Chica Brava veteran, Jackie from Boston, charged it on the outside and showed the local boys how it’s done! By mid week, mother and daughter duo, Daphne and Drew (from Iowa), Kristy from San Fran, and Maddie from Canada were all surfing on the outside!

Jackie’s goal for the week was to downsize surfboards, which she mastered right off the bat. In the middle of the week, she went back to a long board as the waves were a little smaller, and she started working on cross steps and her fancy feet on the board at Playa Eskameca. Daphne wanted to surf the waves with ease and to have fun, which was definitely accomplished as she had a smile on her face the entire time, and daughter Drew gained her confidence so she can go out and surf at home upon returning to California. Check out Daphne and Drew’s video on their experience at Chica Brava and the all girls aspect they loved!

Kristy worked on her angling and turns out in the water so that she can go home to San Fran and join her dad out in the water. Maddie, being a snowboarder and wake boarder, came out of the gate ready to charge it, and was taking her own waves in no time! It’s safe to say that she caught the surfing addiction bug early in the week! Lucky for her, she has joined Chica Brava for a second week full of surfing, so she can continue to master her skills on the surf board.

These ladies fought through the big waves, and off-shores winds, and all had a great week. When they weren’t in the water, they ladies joined the excitement in town and watched some of the World Cup games. We hope you all were able to catch the finals and had safe travels home.
