Weekly Camp Story, May 13 – May 20, 2017
This week we welcomed six lovely ladies to our Surf House for a week of amazing surf and life-long memories. Our girl gang consisted of two ladies from Vancouver, Jil and Caroline, Krista from Texas, Donna from California, Kristin from New York an Daniela from Brazil. Our group of chicas were the ultimate example of how quickly friends can be made when traveling and stepping out of your own comfort zone.
To start the week off, we began our first surf session in Playa Maderas. All of our ladies had the goal of “mastering the pop-up.” We enjoyed some white water waves on the first day, with the exception of Kristin on the outside. She too was perfecting her pop-up on the outside and also improving her paddling. For our first day in Playa Maderas, we were all so stoked to have spent an entire day enjoying the sea and mastering our pop-ups.
On Monday we decided to try out Playa Remanso and man was it beautiful. Monday was really exciting as our two chicas, Jil and Caroline, began their first day on the outside. When Kristin gained these two ladies on the outside the surf stoke instantly grew. There is something about having a group of ladies alongside of you as your cheerleaders. Shortly after, Krista and Donna began on the outside and as you can imagine our numbers dominated. We really love having a large group of driven women out there doing their thing and empowering each other to keep pushing. We continued to put our goals in place and work on paddling on the outside while keeping all of our other learned skills in mind.
Wednesday was an early morning of surf. We started to really get into a grove by Wednesday so we were hitting it early and practicing everything we had talked about and reviewed on video. By Wednesday, Daniela was also working it on he outside and we were simply stoked that our entire crew was charging Remanso waves so early on in the week. The surf was epic… but more so was the Catamaran Adventure that the ladies couldn’t stop raving about which took place Wednesday afternoon. Mai-Tai’s, sunset gazing and craft beers at the local brewery afterwards. So much fun!
Thursday was yet another beautiful afternoon. We decided to go to Remanso where we felt comfortable and able practice what we intended. At this point, all six of the ladies were able to master their pop-ups and even began incorporating angling down the line into their routine. The girl gang was absolutely rocking it. We felt more than proud.
Friday. Friday Funday. It was so very fun! On Friday, we decided to go see Playa Hermosa. The beach was beautiful and quiet. We ended up choosing to return to Remanso as to have the best possible waves to practice on for us. Remanso was firing and the ladies were absolutely killing it out there. Wave after wave after wave. It was so much fun watching all of our beauties on beautiful waves. So much beauty happening! It was such a lovely day in Remanso and we all felt humbled to have had such an epic session. I can’t say enough about Friday because it really was so amazing. The chicas were truly finding their own surf style. Way to go ladies!
To my ladies from this week, thank you so much for making it so incredibly fun for us all. Life is so great when you are enjoying every moment with your girl friends on sweet waves. I honestly couldn’t think of a better scenario. So again thank you and remember to keep surfing and of course come back to Nicaragua to visit!
