Power is given only to those who dare to lower themselves and pick it up. Only one thing matters, one thing; to be able to dare! – Fyodor Dostoevsky

Last week, we had four rad chicas who were able to dare, and in their time here, found new levels of power.

Jen is living and working in Cali. She only surfed about 4-5 times before. So her initial goal was to master her pop up. Jen mastered her pop up on her first day in the water and was paddling to the outside on her second. By the end of the week she got a lot more comfortable with bigger waves and had some sweet green waves down the line.14355797_10154408599083726_7433404345901235808_n

Annie from Cali has been surfing for four years, and wanted to work on her wave reading skills while becoming more comfortable in bigger waves. She caught a bunch of green waves throughout her stay and her longest ride ever on her last day, where she smoothly carved down the line. Laurene, from Switzerland, surfed a bunch before and chose the Chica Brava Surf retreat to perfect her skills and work more on angling. As the week went on, she started to look at the third top of the wave and was able to pump around more sections and begin maneuvers. On her last day she surfed Playa Yankee and got some steep, deep, fast lefts. Talk about some serious progression in just one week!

After a relaxing yoga session at Zen Yoga, and a brief conversation on what Chica Brava was all about, we had one more chica join us! Sarah, from England, was traveling throughout San Juan del Sur when she ran into our current group of girls at yoga and quickly decided she would like to be a part it! So with little surfing experience, she wanted to focus on mastering her pop up. When not only did she master her pop up, but she even paddled to the outside on her first day. During her week, she also progressed down to a smaller board. She worked a lot on her angling as well and by the end of her stay, got some long sweet rides down the line.

Our ladies were pretty active this week. Besides surfing every day at beaches like Maderas, Remanso, Hermosa and even Yankee; they also went to see the Jesus statue of San Juan, did an afternoon sunset sailboat trip to Playa Blanca, saw one of the most BEAUTIFUL sunsets at Hotel Hulakai during Taco Tuesday night, did a canopy tour through the jungle and even played “name the tune” on their last night at the local restaurant Republika, where we almost won! GO TEAM DOUBLE “CHECK”!

Ladies, it was a super fun week and we all here at Chica Brava are so impressed with each and everyone’s progress!
