Here at Chica Brava we are all about the journey, not the destination…The journey, of course, being surfing. We love having women from around the world here with us in San Juan del Sur for a week of surfing, fun and sun, and especially love sharing our joy and passion for surfing. Often they are on the path to discovery, or perhaps already deep into their surf journey, or somewhere in between. But wherever our CHICAS are, once they leave we love to get the occasional check in to see…where you at, girl!

Sometimes pictures say a thousand words. Such is the case with three-time returnee Chica Brava, Koto Furue. Koto began her surf journey with Chica Brava a few years ago, and has been coming back annually since. In the meantime, she travels to all sorts of other amazing surf destinations throughout the world. As an anesthesiologist in Montrea,l Koto’s motto is ‘work hard, play harder!’ She clumps all her shifts together, concentrating on her work in order to save up vacation time and surf the waves of the world. Here’s her “Chica-Check-in”, especially check out the photos….she kills it! Can’t wait to have you back in September!

Koto Furue –
I’m just now getting back into the groove of catching up on things, since I’ve finally been home for more that 10 days at a time! A lot has happened surfing-wise since I went to Chica Brava in September. I’ve been lucky to have had the opportunity to travel a lot this winter. I went to Nosara, Costa Rica twice from Nov. 27-Dec. 17 and recently from Feb. 7-11 for a short trip to surf with some friends who were going to be there at the time. It’s a beach break there and the size was pretty variable, from knee/waist to definitely overhead, so I did a combination of longboarding and short boarding.

I’ve been working on staying close to the pocket and making my turns more complete! I also spent Jan. 10-27 in Mexico at a very nice left point break, and although I took my shortboard out a few times, I mainly longboarded and tried to practice and work on cross-stepping and getting closer to the nose! See below for some photos from my Mexico trip! My next trip, fortunately, is not far away. I’ll be going back to Mexico Mar. 10-16, for another short stint to chase the winter blues away. I’m sure winter won’t yet be over for us in Canada by then! By the way, I’m still carrying in my wallet the inspirational card you made me on the last day of our week in Nica. It reminds me to keeping charging, in the water and in life too. Looking forward to seeing you again this year!

Koto 🙂
