How to Take a Surf Trip on a Budget

Dreaming about a surf trip, but low in money? Don’t you worry; at Chica Brava, we believe that where there is a will, there is a way. And when it comes to surf, there is always a will! Here are some tips to travel cheap.

Sleep cheap.

Camping is a great way to save money and enjoy the outdoors. If sleeping under the starry sky is a bit too adventurous for you, stay in a hostel. You can get a bed for cheap and make new friends. Or, stay with locals. Especially in developing countries, there are a lot of homestays where you can be part of the local culture for a while.

Make your own meals.

Preparing your own food saves the restaurant bills. And you can make sure you get all the nutrients to keep you surfing fit! Pack easy non-perishables to keep you fueled like oatmeal, trail mix, peanut butter, dried fruit, and maybe a candy bar or two.

Volunteer.

In most of the surfy places of the world, there are hostels, farms, etc. that you can work at for a couple hours a day and get accommodation in exchange. Just make sure that you will have that precious time to surf!

Spend less in your everyday life!

Start to budget before you even start the vacation. Do you really need your daily take away coffee, when you could make one at home? Could you walk or cycle instead of driving? Turn off the lights when they are not in need. And so on. Save the environment, save money, surf more!
