The week started off in the middle of San Juan del Sur’s annual Pitaya Festival at Playa Hermosa. Two friends that met studying abroad in Spain, Erin and Tasha joined us to watch Noelani in the finals of the surf competition on Saturday. Later that night, mom and daughter, Lynn and Amanda of Ohio joined the Surf House to make up a great group of 4 at Chica Brava. Erin took a break from the hospital to take and adventurous trip with Tasha who left the computers at work behind for a week of sun, surf, and practicing Spanish. Amanda decided to join us at Chica Brava for her spring break from college and brought her mom along to learn to surf so they can surf together when they visit Florida every year.

Here’s a little glimpse into the day in the life the professional mermaids in training – which consisted mainly of surfing, eating, and sleeping. These women spent plenty of time in the water surfing and would follow up with Tona time and the search for the best ceviche in town. Just because they are mermaids doesn’t mean they weren’t going to eat their fish friends while on that search. Amanda and Lynn took a mid week trip to Popoyo, so Amanda could surf her first reef break and to check out Hotel Magnific Rock (and their epic brownie). Check out mother and daughter team duo’s experience and all the fun waves they had!

Everyone was surfing on the outside and enjoying the beautiful weather and waves which lead us to the self reward of the salted caramel tart by the talented baker Heather that lasted all week.

Erin, Tasha, Amanda, and Lynn all enjoyed their last day with a morning surf session and then an afternoon on the catamaran. They enjoyed their Tona time in fashion sailing at sea, eating some of town’s best ceviche and getting the best views of the sunset. We couldn’t decide what exactly went into the training of a professional mermaid, but we are all pretty sure we did it just right… Chica Brava style!
