It was a full crew of 11 at the Chica Brava Surf House during Nicaragua’s Celebration of Independence.  Four friends, now five: Rachel, Holly, Alessia, Kirsty, and Hannah traveled from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to try surfing for a second time so that they can hopefully go back and surf like ‘Chicken Joe’ from Surf’s Up on the Great Lake.  Third time returnee, Carolyn, brought her friend Lindsay from Los Angles, to pick up some more surfing skills and have another round of chica fun!  Solo travelers Jill and Morgan became quick buddies after discovering they had the same travel plans and ended up going back to Seattle together after a week full of fun in the sun.  Another solo traveler, Danielle, came from New Hampshire, to check off a bucket list item and to add one more extreme sport to her list.  Last but not least, Tatiana of Germany, joined us for a week of advancing her surfing skills as she continues on her year long adventure through the Americas.

The Independence Day celebrations were in full affect when the chicas arrived, so everyone joined in the festivities by watching the student marching band, trying some of the national cuisine, and listening to traditional Nicaraguan music.  We started the week out at Playa Remanso, where everyone quickly got their feet under them and learned the basics.  The forecasted swell started to fill in as quickly as everyone stood up! We continued the week by surfing some fun waves in the Bay of  San Juan Del Sur, right in front of Surf House! There isn’t anything like rolling out of bed, grabbing a coffee, checking the surf, grabbing your surfboard, and walking across the street to hit the swells! Check out the Wisconson’s chicas time at Chica Brava and the great waves in the Bay!!!

With a group of 11 awesome ladies, you can imagine that there was truly never a dull moment.  Everyone surfed until their arms felt like noodles and then relaxed at the Pelican Eye’s pool enjoying the epic views and some signature Chica Brava cocktails.  If they weren’t sipping on some drinks at the pool, the ladies sure did know how to spend the afternoon – whether that was shopping in town, massages at Zen Yoga, relaxing on the catamaran tour, or cowboy’ing up at the horse tour at Rancho Chilamate.  We ended the week with a tasty dinner at Bamboo Beach Restaurant and grabbed some Trit ice-cream sandwiches afterwards. Amidst attempting to devour our Trit’s before they melted, we also laughed about everything that took place that week, and all the truly unforgettable moments.

Don’t lose your leash tans too quickly ladies, and hope to see you back soon!
