The Chica Brava girl gang spent four wonderful days at Playa Remanso, two at Playa Hermosa, and one day in San Juan.
Sunday through Wednesday: Vamos a Playa Remanso!
We welcomed three new ladies to the Surf House, Eileen from Illinois, Isabelle from Quebec, Claire from Rhode Island and Daniela from the week before was still hanging out with Chica Brava for another week! It was a great dynamic of women from all different backgrounds.
Surf up was early Sunday and Monday, so after breakfast we charged to Playa Remanso to master the pop up and get the feelings for their new surf boards. The ladies had a blast playing in the inside and yelling encouraging words to each other as each caught waves. Learning the feeling of what it’s like to be on a surfboard and overcoming their fears of falling. Eileen’s starfish flop was the most perfect starfish flop we’ve seen! She really stuck it every time! Because this was Danielas 2nd week with Chica Brava she took the time to play on the baby greens, focusing on mastering her paddling and really digging deep to catch those waves all by herself! GO DANIELA!
Surf up for Tuesday and Wednesday was later in the afternoon, so after spending some time on the beach hanging out, the ladies were ready to paddle to the outside to learn paddling, turtle rolls, and how to turn their boards quickly. They also learned some lingo that us instructor us in order to explain what is going on in the water. For example: Out the back, paddle out, and outside all mean to paddle away from the beach. If the instructor say “sit up and lean back” it’s because the wave is too steep and not a good one to paddle for, and when you drop in on a steep wave, we’ll yell “That was a steepy!” We surfed into the sunset on both days and were the last ones to leave. Such magical hours on the water when the sun goes down over the horizon.
Thursday and Friday: Vamos a Playa Hermosa!
Daniella left on Thursday and we said a warm, “See you soon!” to a wonderful chica who will forever be our surf sister. Surf was up early again on Thursday and Friday so we made our way to Playa Hermosa after breakfast for two fun days on the outside with Isabelle and Claire. On Thursday Eileen decided not to go to the outside and instead had a relaxing beach day, and Friday she chilled in town enjoying her time in San Juan.
The water was warm and the waves were kicking and these ladies charged! Even though the white water presented to be a bit of a challenge everyone did their very best to beat the waves and get to the outside. Once we were there sea life greeted us as rays took flying leaps as they chased after their food and fish of all sizes played in the water around us. Everyone caught several waves and had a fantastic time paddling and mastering their pop ups. With plenty of beach time under their belts and some super fun waves the ladies were ready to head back to town for a yummy dinner at El Pollito and enjoy some drinks on the town for their last night.
It was a truly amazing time with these Chica BravaS who are forever our surfing soul sisters!
