Our Thanksgiving week was filled with a variety of beaches and a group of chicas who were all solo travelers. We surfed four different beaches, some challenging while others were smooth rides all the way into shore. The waves worked in our favor all week allowing for amazing surf sessions in the morning and in the afternoon.

We had an international group of travelers this week, with ladies from all over. We met our newest addition to the Chica Brava team – Naomi, from England, who surfed, chilled and introduced us to “tea time”. Susi, an HR manager from Germany, was on her second week here at Chica Brava, and was not looking forward to the snow upon her return home. In her 2 weeks with us, she really mastered going down the line, reading and catching waves on her own! Tara, originally from Ireland and now a marketing manager in San Francisco, progressed fast during her week in the sun! Prior to coming to Chica Brava, Tara lived and surfed in Costa Rica for 3 years – she decided to come to Chica Brava to improve and progress her surfing, and by the end of the week she was riding down the line and mentally preparing herself to face the frigid water in San Fran upon her return. Caitlin, our commercial fisherman from Savannah, but currently residing in Seattle, had no previous experience surfing – but by day two, she was angling down the line! One of her highlights was successfully surfing Playa Yankee, an advanced beach break by the end of the week. Charis, a biotech technician from California, arrived a day late but that didn’t stop her from riding some awesome waves. She quickly stomped her fear of the ocean and was taking off on some of the bigger sets that rolled in consistently throughout the week. Last but certainly not least was Allie, a student at Georgia Southern. She came into the week with some experience but super stoked with a love for the ocean and an eager to learn more attitude. Allie achieved all of her goals this week and more by learning to ride the nose, surfing a shortboard, and even ended her week by easing her way into a nice barrel at Playa Yankee. Here is a video of Allie’s recap of her awesome week in Nicaragua at Chica Brava!

This week was filled with surfing and adventures! Not only did the girls take an epic sailboat ride – through rain and shine, but they also volunteered with Escuela Adelante (a non-profit local bilingual school), enjoyed plenty of pool time at Pelican Eyes, ate an amazing Thanksgiving feast at San Juan del Sur Cervecería and rounded out the week with a little karaoke and dancing at Howler Bar.

This was an amazing week here at Chica Brava with fun car rides and interesting conversations to include how there are so many things to be thankful for…beautiful weather, perfect waves, and amazing chicas!

Until next time chicas!!!
